Since 1999, the Guthrie has hosted this special event to encourage children and young adults to make playgoing a lifelong activity. The Shakespeare Classic is designed to let young people ages 10-17 experience the powerful stories, poetry and imagination of William Shakespeare. Funded by contributions to the Sheila and Kenneth Livingston Education Fund, the Shakespeare Classic includes a matinee performance of the Guthrie's Shakespeare production, a specially prepared program for young people and a special opportunity to meet the cast through a post-play discussion. In 2001, the Star Tribune's Kim Ode wrote an article about the Livingston family before that year's Shakespeare Classic.

The 16th Annual Shakespeare Classic is the 1 p.m. matinee performance of A Midsummer Night's Dream on Sunday, March 15. Call the Box Office for tickets: 612.377.2224.
