Guthrie Dream Wedding Contest Rules

NO PURCHASE IS NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN.   

Sponsor: The contest is sponsored by The Guthrie Theater, 818 South Second Street, Minneapolis, Minnesota 55415; MSP Communications d/b/a Mpls St. Paul Magazine, 220 S Sizzth Street, Ste. 500, Minneapolis, MN 455402 and Kare 11/Metromix Twin Cities 8811 Olson Memorial Highway, Minneapolis, MN 55427.

Eligibility: The contest is open to legal residents of the United States, excluding New York, Florida and Puerto Rico, who are at least 18 years of age.  Void where prohibited by law.  Employees of Sponsors, any affiliates, subsidiaries, suppliers, distributors, advertising and promotional agencies, directors and their immediate families and household members are not eligible to enter.  The contest is not open to married couples seeking to renew their vows.  Entrants are subject to all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations.  Limit one entry per couple.

Agreement to Official Rules: By participating in this contest, entrants agree to abide by the terms and conditions thereof as established by Sponsors.  Sponsors reserve the right to qualify all submissions and to reject any submissions that do not meet the requirements for participation as established by Sponsors. 

How to Enter: Entrants may enter by posting a three to five minute video explaining why they want to be married at The Guthrie Theater on YouTube and submitting a link of the video to The Guthrie Theater via the entry form found at www.guthrietheater.org/dreamwedding.  All entries must include the names, addresses, telephone numbers and e-mail addresses of each member of the couple that is entering.  Incomplete entries are void and will not be eligible to win. 

All videos must depict only the entrants and no other persons.  All entrants represent and warrant that they are the persons listed on the entry form and depicted in the submitted videos.  All entrants further represent and warrant that they are the author of the videos submitted in connection with the contest and that the use of the videos by Sponsors as provided herein will not infringe or misappropriate any intellectual property, rights of publicity, or other proprietary rights of any person or entity.  This includes, but is not limited to, movie clips, music, website content, and book and audio excerpts.

The video entries may not contain profanity, pornographic, or sexual content, content promoting alcohol, illegal drugs, tobacco, firearms, or weapons, hateful content of any kind (including racism, sexism, etc.), content that promotes violence or harm to another living creature, or any other offensive, obscene, or inappropriate content.  The video entries may also not defame, misrepresent, or contain disparaging remarks about other people or companies, including, but not limited to Sponsors. 

Sponsors assume no responsibility for computer system, hardware, software or program malfunctions or other errors, failures, delayed computer transactions or network connections that are human or technical in nature, or for damaged, lost, late, illegible or misdirected entries; technical, hardware, software, electronic or telephone failures of any kind; lost or unavailable network connections; fraudulent, incomplete, garbled or delayed computer transmissions whether caused by Sponsors, the users, or by any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilized in this contest; or by any technical or human error that may occur in the processing of submissions or downloading, that may limit, delay or prevent an entrant’s ability to participate in the contest.

Sponsors reserve the right, in their sole discretion, to cancel or suspend this contest and award a prize from entries received up to the time of termination or suspension should virus, bugs or other causes beyond Sponsors’ control, unauthorized human intervention, malfunction, computer problems, phone line or network hardware or software malfunction, which, in the sole opinion of Sponsors, corrupt, compromise or materially affect the administration, fairness, security or proper play of the contest or proper submission of entries. Sponsors are not liable for any loss, injury or damage caused, whether directly or indirectly, in whole or in part, from downloading data or otherwise participating in this contest.

Use of Entries: No entries will be returned.  All entries, excluding the videos submitted in connection therewith, become the property of The Guthrie Theater.  By entering, all entrants consent to the use by The Guthrie Theater of all the information provided in the entries, including but not limited to for marketing or sales promotion purposes.

All videos submitted in connection with the contest shall remain the property of the entrants, although entrants agree by entering this contest to grant to Sponsors the non-exclusive, non-transferable, worldwide, perpetual right to edit, modify, cut, rearrange, add to, delete from, publish, copy, exhibit, transmit, perform, broadcast or otherwise use the videos by any means and in any media, whether now known or hereafter developed, for any and all purposes, without further review, notice, approval, consideration, or compensation of entrants.

Entry Periods: Entries may be submitted from May 14, 2009 at 10 a.m. to June 30, 2009 to 5 p.m.  Qualifying videos as described below will be posted on Mpls St. Paul Magazine’s website at http://www.mspmag.com and Kare 11/MetroMix Twin Cities website at http://www.kare11.com from July 6, 2009 at 10 a.m. to July 12, 2009 at 11:59 p.m. to be voted on by members of the public.  Entries received before or after the entry period are void. 

Selection of Winner: The entries will be prescreened through a subjective judging process in which The Guthrie Theater will decide which of the entries it receives best comport with the purposes of the contest before being posted for voting on the Mlps St. Paul Magazine and Kare 11/Metromix Twin Cities websites.  Five (5) videos will be selected by The Guthrie Theater based on creativity and relevancy to The Guthrie Theater.  In the event that similar entries are submitted by multiple entrants, The Guthrie Theater reserves the right to choose the finalists based on the criteria listed above.  The videos will be then be posted online for public voting with a final deadline.  In the event that the public voting results in a tie between two or more of the finalist entries, a winner will be chosen by a random drawing on or about July 13, 2009.  The odds of being selected as a finalist or winning are not capable of being calculated due to the uncertainty over the number and quality of entries received. 

Notification of Potential Prize Winners: The Prize Winners will be notified 5 p.m. on July 13, 2009.  If the Prize Winners do not acknowledge acceptance of the Prize within 2 days after being notified that they are the Prize Winners or doe not abide by the requirements of the Prize Winners specified below, another couple will be chosen as the Prize Winners using the same procedure specified above.  

Requirements of Prize Winners: As a precondition to award of the Prize, the Prize Winners must:

  • agree that The Guthrie Theater has the ultimate right to make the final determination on all aspects of the wedding and reception including but not limited to those listed below as part of the Prize; 
  • allow Sponsors and their employees and/or agents to take still photographs and/or video footage of all activities surrounding the wedding, including but not limited to the ceremony and reception.  All such photographs and/or video footage shall remain the property of the Prize Winners, although Sponsors may retain print and electronic copies of the photographs in perpetuity if they choose to do so.  Prize Winners also agree to grant to Sponsors the non-exclusive, non-transferable, worldwide, perpetual right to edit, modify, cut, rearrange, add to, delete from, publish, copy, exhibit, transmit, perform, broadcast or otherwise use the photographs and/or videos by any means and in any media, whether now known or hereafter developed, for any and all purposes, without further review, notice, approval, consideration, or compensation;
  • agree to participate in at least 5 press opportunities between July 6 and August 15 at dates and times to be agreed upon by all participants; and

  • sign and return an affidavit of eligibility and liability and publicity release, wherever lawful, and obtain signed copies of such releases from all members of the bridal party. 

In the event that the Prize Winners fail to complete any of the aforementioned requirements, Prize Winners may be disqualified, and the Prize will thereafter be awarded to an alternate Prize Winner using the procedure specified above, if this may be accomplished with sufficient notice in advance of the August 16, 2009 ceremony date.  

Prize: The Prize Winners will receive the following:

  • Rental of Wurtele Thrust Stage on Sunday, August 16, 2009 from 4:00 PM to 7:30 PM for ceremony to begin at 6:00 PM officiated by Guthrie veteran and star of the 1991 movie Father of the Bride, Peter Michael Goetz.  DATE AND TIME OF THE CEREMONY ARE NOT FLEXIBLE.  Ceremony package does not include music or transportation for the guests and/or bridal party.  (Estimated value: $10,000)
  • Reception following the ceremony in the Dowling Studio including food, bar and beverage, wedding cake and decor for 150 persons (including bride, groom and bridal party) provided by Culinaire.  NUMBER OF WEDDING GUESTS IS DETERMINED BY SPACE CAPACITY AND IS NOT FLEXIBLE.  PRIZE WINNERS MUST ACCEPT FOOD, BAR AND BEVERAGE, WEDDING CAKE AND DÉCOR AS DETERMINED BY CULINAIRE.  Reception package does not include DJ services or transportation for the guests and/or bridal party.  (Estimated value: $28,000)
  • Honeymoon hotel stay at the Radisson St. Martin Resort, Marina & Spa compliments of Radisson Hotel Worldwide.  Includes seven (7) night/eight (8) day stay for the Prize Winners in a Marina Suite.  Also includes daily breakfast for two.  Hotel stay may be redeemed from August 16, 2009 through August 31, 2010, excluding December 21-31, 2009.  The Guthrie Theater will provide two (2) round trip coach airline tickets for the Prize Winners from Minneapolis/St. Paul International airport to St. Martin.  COST OF MEALS (OTHER THAN SPECIFIED ABOVE), TRANSPORTATION TO AND FROM THE AIRPORT AND OTHER INCIDENTALS ARE NOT INCLUDED.  (Estimated value: $4,000)
  • Wedding gown from of l'atelier couture bridal boutique and groom’s tuxedo rental from Savvi Formalwear.  Bride may choose one of three pre-selected styles.  Does not include wedding attire for any members of the bridal party other than the bride and groom.  (Estimated value: $7000)
  • Custom designed bridal party flowers by Bachman’s Floral.  (Estimated value: $1500)
  • Wedding day photography coverage for up to 8 hours with two photographers provided by Anderson’s Designer Portraits, along with a $1000 studio credit to be used toward Prize Winners’ custom designed wedding book.  (Estimated value: $3300)
  • Wedding day videography coverage for approximately 4-5 hours at the Guthrie Theater.  Includes production of a customized DVD including the full wedding ceremony, and a 30-minute “Wedding Day Movie” highlighting the key moments of the day. Three standard DVDs of the final production will also be included.  (Estimated value: $2200)
  • Invitations by A Milestone Paper Co.  Prize Winners may choose one of three pre-selected invitation designs and text versions.  Postage not included.  (Estimated value: $1500)
  • Wedding bands designed by Karin Jacobson Designs.  Prize winners must choose one of three pre-selected wedding band sets.  (Estimated value: $3000)
  • Overnight stay at Aloft Hotel on August 16, 2009.  Does not include room service, parking or other incidentals.  (Estimated value: $200)
  • 20 tickets to a Friday or Saturday evening performance of the play When We Are Married at The Guthrie Theater, on a date to be determined by the Prize Winners.  (Estimated value: $1000)

The estimated total retail value of the Prize is approximately $61,700.  ALL OTHER EXPENSES RELATED TO THE WEDDING INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE EXCLUSIONS IDENTIFIED ABOVE ARE THE SOLE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE PRIZE WINNERS.  Taxes, if any, are also the sole responsibility of the Prize Winners.  

MODIFICATIONS OF ANY OF THE ABOVE-LISTED PARTS OF THE PRIZE BY THE PRIZE WINNERS ARE PERMITTED ONLY WITH THE EXPRESS CONSENT OF THE GUTHRIE THEATER.  IN THE EVENT THAT THE PRIZE WINNERS CHOOSE TO DECLINE A PART OF THE PRIZE WITH GUTHRIE’S CONSENT, SAID PORTION OF THE PRIZE WILL BE DEEMED VOID AND NO SUBSTITUTION (MONETARY OR OTHERWISE) WILL BE GIVEN.

Sponsors make no warranties or disclaimers concerning the Prize beyond those customarily given by Sponsors or already given by third parties in connection with any part of the Prize.  Sponsor reserves the right to substitute variations of any part of the Prize of approximately equivalent value in its sole discretion. 

Release and Publicity:  The Prize Winners agree to release and hold harmless Sponsors and their officers, directors, employees, affiliated companies, subsidiaries, suppliers, distributors, advertising and promotional agencies, agents, successors and assigns  from and against any claim or cause of action arising out of participation in the contest.
