Artist: Monica
Rudquist
Minneapolis artist Monica Rudquist developed each piece of the collection to
emphasize the forms,
shapes and color of the building's architecture. Capturing the spirit
and
energy of interior and exterior elements of the Guthrie, each piece is
unique: hand thrown on a wheel and marked by the firing process. The
forms are
functional and meant to hold memories and turn daily activities into
special
occasions. |
Artist: Robin Rifé
Item: Faith Healer-inspired jewelry
The fall 2009 Guthrie production of Faith Healer by Brian Friel inspired this
collection of jewelry by Minneapolis
artist Robin Rifé. The hand image, symbolizing themes in the play, is the
focal element in each of these one-of-a-kind necklaces and earrings. Rifé constructs jewelry from an eclectic array of
materials gathered regionally and internationally. All pieces are created with a mixture of contemporary
and classic design elements, which results in a timeless look. Hailing from the
southwest by way of northern California,
she now happily resides in the northeast artist district of Minneapolis.

Item: Hana Tsumami Kanzashi
Inspired by traditional Japanese hair ornaments, these flowers are created by artisans in the Guthrie wig department by folding small squares of silk into petals and gluing them together. Like those which adorn the actors in the Guthrie production of M. Butterfly, these miniature works of art are often worn by Japanese geisha.
