Exploring the World of Theater

A man and woman walk into a room. They stare confusedly around themselves. It seems they have entered some parallel dimension which has different laws and rules that they don't quite understand. 12 students stand in a circle in front of them, clapping as they "vroom" in a circle. "Speedbump!" They all jump. "Snowbank?" Three of them execute bizarre forms of pirouettes. "European Intersection!" Chaos explodes. The man and woman slowly back out of the room, retreating back into the world they know.

How, in the world we know and love, is this zaniness possible? Only in the theater.

The above story is transcribed directly from the first meeting of the Guthrie High School Players. The Guthrie has formed a new group for high school students (grades 9-12) interested in theater. The club meets every other Sunday in the Guthrie Learning Center, from 12:30 - 2:30 p.m. We will be delving into all walks of theater, from the writing to the lighting. You'll have a chance to meet Guthrie professinoals from all departments, including technicians, administrators, actors and directors! It's an opportunity to play at the Guthrie and utilize its resources to further your own interests in theater, be they a mild curiosity of a full-blown obsession.
