When you think Guthrie, you think great plays. Did you know we also have great summer camps for kids and teens?

Your child's spark of imagination will be ignited through theater games, creative movement, and engaging interaction with a uniquely gifted instructor and other theater-loving kids. Guthrie summer camps are a fun, energetic and truly exceptional experience for young people ages 7-16.

As a special benefit to this year's campers all students completing a summer camp will receive a voucher good for two preview tickets for Little House on the Prairie, the world premiere musical opening this summer at the Guthrie - a $100 value!

For Kids 7-10/11-13 

Magic, Mirth and Mystery

An imagination explosion for all experience levels. Explore the world of fantasy through storytelling and improvisation. Using fairy tales, myths and legends as well as stories of their own creation, students will learn from expert Guthrie instructors valuable skills in acting, voice and movement. Let your imagination run wild! Become kings, queens, dragons and fools. Create your own journeys through mountains, forest, desert and sea. Explore scenes from great mythic literature, and twist them to your own liking.

Session A: 7 - 10 year olds

Musical Theater Journeys

Experience the fun and excitement of creating musical theater with professionals.Learn the art of storytelling through musical theater. Create stories and put them together with songs to create your own play. With instruction in acting, singing and dance, students will develop musical theater skills. Using a variety of songs, fairy tales and legends, students will work with highly experienced and creative Guthrie instructors who will direct, choreograph and make their imaginative ideas come to life.

Session A: 7 - 10 year olds

For Kids and Teens 11-13/14-16

Make 'Em Laugh|
$550

A "serious" experience in fun-making for all experience levels.Explore the whole range of comic acting from commedia dell'arte to Monty Python. With instruction in improvisation, physical comedy and classical comic texts, students will work with some of the most trained and experienced Guthrie comic actors. Create your own comic sketches through improvisation and movement. Study techniques used by silent film comedians like Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton. Invent comic scenes through the use of masks and props. Learn the fine art of pratfalls, slapstick and the banana peel.

Session A: 11 - 13 year olds

For Teens 14-16

Broadway Bound for Teens
$550

A fun week for any level of musical performer.Take part in an extensive immersion into all aspects of musical theater, with training in vocal singing, dance and acting. Taught by talented Guthrie performers and teachers, students will take part in daily movement and singing classes, as well as learn how to make bold acting choices appropriate for the "larger than life" qualities of musical theater. Students will take part in creating their own musical piece, using songs specifically selected for that purpose, and staged and choreographed by musical theater professionals.

July 28 - August 1, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Camp Shakespeare
$550

A week of fun with language, passion and Shakespearean "magic."Spend a week this summer with the Bard as we concentrate on the works of our greatest playwright, William Shakespeare. Led by experienced classical Guthrie actors, students will undergo training in acting, voice and movement using Shakespearean scenes and sonnets. Work with the language of a Shakespearean text. Wield a staff! Rip off a string of Elizabethan insults! Be a bawdy clown or a wicked villain. No previous experience with Shakespeare necessary.
