About the shows:
Third
Through March 30 on the McGuire Proscenium Stage
Tickets priced $24 to $69
A timely and funny play, Third tells the story of college professor Laurie Jameson, whose seemingly well-ordered life as wife, mother and daughter is thrown into disarray when she accuses a student, an outwardly stereotypical jock nicknamed 'Third,' of plagiarism. In challenging the student, she is forced to question her aggressively feminist ideology, standards and family relationships, bringing the play's central theme -- the danger of becoming that very thing you have been battling against -- full circle. Defined by its dazzlingly smart dialogue, crackling wit, intelligence and wryness, Third is true evidence of what made the late Wendy Wasserstein one of the most prominent female playwrights of the last 20 years.
9 Parts of Desire
March 1 - 23 in the Dowling Studio
Tickets priced $18 to $34
9 Parts of Desire delves into the lives of nine women - eight Iraqi, one American - as each struggles to attain her own definition of liberation. A portrait of the extraordinary (and ordinary) lives of these women, this heartbreaking and astonishingly topical work is an unusually timely meditation on the ancient, the modern and the feminine in a country overshadowed by war. While the women's professions differ greatly, the ultimate impact of their testimony is the same: a vivid understanding of what it means to be a woman in Iraq, enduring unimaginable savagery and maintaining a belief in love and the possibility of finding peace.
Jane Eyre
March 8 - 30 on the Wurtele Thrust Stage
Tickets priced $29 to $59
A new gripping, theatrical production based on one of literature's most-loved romances. Jane Eyre accepts a position as a governess to a ward at Thornfield Hall and wins the love of her employer Edward Rochester, a kind yet mysterious man. But soon Jane's love, strength and determination are tested as Rochester's long-kept secrets are unveiled. Charlotte Brontë's classic novel receives a thrilling new adaptation by Alan Stanford, whose version of Pride and Prejudice earned rave reviews at the Guthrie by subscribers and critics alike.
Tickets for all three productions are on sale through the Guthrie Box Office at 612.377.2224, toll-free 877.44.STAGE and online at http://www.guthrietheater.org/.
