Internships

Since its founding in 1963, the Guthrie Theater has maintained an extensive intern program with theater and college students and graduates, from across the country, attracted by the opportunity of working with Guthrie artists and craftspeople. An internship with the Guthrie is a valuable supplement and follow-up to a strong theatrical education.

Summer 2009 internships are available in Lighting, Sound, and Technical Production. We do not offer internships in acting.

Internships can run from a few weeks to a full season.  The type of internship for which you are applying determines the length of internship. Please check the individual internship descriptions for timeframe.  Complimentary tickets are available to interns as well as a great deal of exposure to theater-wide events and activities. The internship is an unpaid position.

The philosophy of the program is to have the intern work with the staff and artists, observing practical applications of skills required in specific areas and applying those skills to assigned projects. While every effort is made to make internships a valuable educational experience, interns are expected to perform a variety of tasks, not all of which will be glamorous.

It is recommended that persons interested in these positions apply anywhere from 1-6 months prior to their availability, depending on the specific internship they are applying for.

Please be sure to check the "prerequisites" section of the internship you are applying for carefully to ensure that you meet the educational requirements and have the relevant skills and traits sought for the internship for which you are applying.  Applicants whose education and relevant skills don't match the internship for which they are applying, will not be considered for that internship.
