9 Parts of Desire
directed by Joel Sass
"Kate Eifrig's performance is a tour de force, in more ways than one" - City Pages
God created sexual desire in ten parts; then he gave nine parts to women and one to men. - Ali ibn Abu Taleb
Accomplished Twin Cities actress Kate Eifrig stars in this acclaimed solo work celebrating the extraordinary (and ordinary) stories of nine women – eight Iraqi, one American – and their searches for personal freedom from a country overshadowed by war. This portrait of overlapping conversations, directed by the talented Joel Sass, features women from all walks of life, including a painter and mother, an American student, and a widowed ex-communist – providing a more personal look into the inner life of Iraq than a television newscast possibly could. By turns hilarious and heartbreaking, the ultimate impact of their testimony is the same: a vivid understanding of what it means to be a woman in Iraq, maintaining a belief in love and the possibility of finding peace.
Don’t miss the opportunity to experience this extraordinary play, one The New Yorker called “an example of how art can remake the world.”
