Family ties – whether they come from a real family or a family of choice – are at the heart of Anytown, a unique collaboration pairing the choreography of Minneapolis-based Shapiro & Smith Dance with the music of rock ’n’ roll legend Bruce Springsteen and E Street Band Members Patti Scialfa and Soozie Tyrell. With gravity-defying movements, grace and humor, the work follows three families whose lives are entangled in a web of desire and need while struggling with loss and survival. Fueled by some of Springsteen’s hit songs, this dance theater piece uses music and movement to address the concerns of today’s middle and working classes. The Village Voice said that “Anytown invades your heart, and at some moments almost stops it.”
