music and lyrics by Cole Porter
book by Paul Blake
based on the Paramount Pictures Corporation motion picture
directed by John Miller-Stephany
More than 50 years since Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck captured the hearts of audiences worldwide in Roman Holiday, the Guthrie presents a larger-than-life new musical based on the iconic film, featuring the unforgettable tunes of songwriting legend Cole Porter. In this fairytale romance, the radiant young Princess Ann is on a widely publicized European tour, but when the demands of her official duties become too much to bear, she sneaks away to explore the Eternal City on her own. Disguising herself as a commoner, she meets an American newspaper reporter who feigns ignorance of her true identity to land an exclusive story, but his plan crumbles as the couple tours the world’s most romantic city and finds themselves falling in love. With one show-stopping tune after another sung by a cast of 26 astonishing singers and dancers backed by a live orchestra, this sparkling new musical will be the most magical blockbuster of the summer!
