We Are Proud to Present

February 21 - March 12, 2017 in the Dowling Studio

Going off-script can sometimes be the best way to tell a story. We Are Proud to Present follows an ensemble of American actors -- three black and three white – as they rehearse a stage presentation about a genocide in 1900s colonial Africa. Questions arise when they realize that summarizing the event doesn’t do justice to the people it affected, and while they struggle to understand both sides, they make connections between the past they are portraying and the issues confronting them in the present. Equal parts comedy and drama, We Are Proud to Present sparks powerful conversations about race, nationality, ethics, exploitation and sovereignty, while exposing the issues both in humorous moments of failed communication and striking moments with haunting artistic discoveries.

Part of the Level Nine Series, devoted to community dialogue about today’s most significant topics and questions.
