COLMAN DOMINGO

(MR. BONES)

What's your favorite moment in the show?
The end. The most powerful lines spoken in the show and then the spectacular base drum.

What was your reaction when you learned you'd be spending your summer in Minneapolis?
I was so pleased because the last time I was here was in the dead of winter in the Guthrie production of The People's Temple. I heard about how beautiful Minneapolis was at this time of year and I had to see it for myself.

What's the most memorable thing someone has said to you after seeing the show?
Thank you (with tears overflowing) Thank you.

What do you like to do most on your day off?
Eat Ice Cream! I cut back a lot of dairy during the show week to keep mucus down. On my day off it is, Hello Cheese, Hello Ice Cream and Hello World!

What's the one destination in the Twin Cities you must see before you leave?
Eat Street!

What's the one thing you knew you had to pack for the road?
A seasonal change of wardrobe. I heard that it will drop soon in September and I wanted to have my fall attire.

What's your favorite book?
Right now it is Are you there Vodka, It's Me Chelsea, by Chelsea Handler. A little light fluffy silly reading especially when I am in such a heavy duty emotional historical show. I usually read the exact opposite of what I am a part of artistically in the moment.

What's on your iPod?
Lots of Soul Music.

Do you have any hidden talents?
I hope so. The more I live the more they reveal themselves to me.

What is your biggest pet peeve?
People who make excuses.

What's on your nightstand?
Photos of my family and a glass of water

Do you have a phobia?
I am Claustrophobic. I learned this in an elevator in Paris with my mother. A very small elevator that could transport maybe 2 people. I had a fit when the doors closed. Then I realized when I never liked concerts and places where I cannot see a clear exit.

What is your ultimate comfort food?
Fried Chicken, Mac and Cheese, Collard Greens, and Apple Pie. Oh, and Marshmallows.

What song/movie could you listen to or watch over and over?
Annie Hall (movie) and (song) "Someday We'll All Be Free" by Donny Hathaway

Morning or evening person?
In the evening I come alive.

Any secret obsessions?
It wouldn't be a secret would it. :)

What's the one gadget you could not live without?
My hair clippers. Gotta stay trim.
