In Pen, a controlling mother, whose multiple sclerosis continues to degenerate her body and relationships, holds tightly to her son by influencing his enrollment in a nearby college, as her ex-husband tries to spring the boy loose. The son makes a choice that unleashes a series of events, forcing his broken family to confront its unresolved wounds.

Pen is the latest play from David Marshall Grant, the actor/playwright whose first play, Snakebit, was nominated for both a 1999 Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Award. As an actor, he is best known for playing opposite Richard Gere in Broadway's Bent and for his Tony nominated performance in Angles in America. His acting credits include film and television work in The Rock, Air America, "And the Band Played On," "Citizen Cohn," "thirtysomething," and "Nothing Scared." Current, Grant serves as a writer/story editor for ABC's "Brothers & Sisters."
