In classic David Hwang fashion, Yellow Face is a comic, head-spinning story in which mistaken racial identities collide with family, media and politics. Yellow Face begins as DHH (Twin Cities favorite Randy Reyes), fresh from the success of his Tony Award for M. Butterfly, publicly protests the casting of a Caucasian actor in a Eurasian role (Matt Rein) in the original production of Miss Saigon. The play spirals into a dizzying mix of autobiography and fantasy, government investigations and a sea of media debate that stirs up questions of what it means to be Asian and what it takes to be American. Mu Performing Arts Artistic Director Rick Shiomi directs this 2008 Pulitzer finalist, which also features Kurt Kwan, Erika Crane, Don Eitel, Kim Kivens, Allen Malicsi, Rose Tran and Wade Vaughn.
This production contains adult language.

"A fearless, inviting comedy...Its subject is very specific yet it's one that anyone should be able to appreciate. I laughed my way through director Rick Shiomi's fast-paced production. He has a really good acting company... [and] all work seamlessly to make Yellow Face a work of levity and glaring light." - Star Tribune
