On May 8, 2025, More Than a Single Story and Hennepin County Library will bring #1 New York Times bestselling children and young adult book author and MacArthur Fellow, Jason Reynolds, to the Guthrie.
Reynolds will be joined in an afternoon conversation with local award winning Young Adult author, Shannon Gibney and two 15-year-old readers, Boisey Corvah and Asher Parks.

About the artists

Jason Reynolds
is a #1 New York Times bestselling author of many award-winning books, including Look Both Ways: A Tale Told in Ten Blocks, All American Boys (with Brendan Kiely), Long Way Down, Stamped: Racism, Antiracism, and You (with Ibram X. Kendi), Stuntboy, in the Meantime (illustrated by Raúl the Third), and Ain’t Burned All the Bright (with artwork by Jason Griffin). Recipient of a 2024 MacArthur Genius award, he is also a recipient of the Newbery Honor, a Printz Honor, an NAACP Image Award, and multiple Coretta Scott King honors. Reynolds was also the 2020-2022 National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature. He has appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, Late Night with Seth Meyers, CBS Sunday Morning, Good Morning America, and various media outlets. He is on faculty at Lesley University, for the Writing for Young People MFA Program and lives in Washington, DC.
Shannon Gibney
is a writer, educator, and activist. She is author of several books, including The Girl I Am, Was, and Never Will Be: A Speculative Memoir of Transracial Adoption, which received a Michael L. Printz Honor and a Minnesota Book Award; See No Color and Dream Country, both winners of Minnesota Book Awards; Where We Come From (co-authored), winner of the 2023 Carter G. Woodson Award; and Sam and the Incredible African and American Food Fight, a children’s picture book about a cross cultural family. A Bush Artist and McKnight Writing Fellow, Gibney teaches at Minneapolis College, where she was named Educator of the Year in 2023. She lives with her two children in Minneapolis.
Boisey Corvah
is a ninth grader at South High in Minneapolis. He enjoys playing soccer, reading, going to the gym, hanging out with his friends, and playing video games. His favorite books are the Gregor the Overland and Wings of Fire series, Look Both Ways, and Stamped from the Beginning.
Asher Parks
enjoys playing basketball and baseball, hanging out with friends, playing video games, and travelling to fun places like San Diego. He is also a ninth grader at South High in Minneapolis. The Spy School series, Long Way Down, and the Legend series are some of his favorite books.
