Work With Us
Every year more than 500 people help to ensure our success in creating and supporting the highest level of theater, both onstage and off. Many different talents and skills are needed to do our work, and we offer full-time and part-time career opportunities.
The Guthrie is committed to recruiting and fostering a diverse staff who reflects our world. We strongly encourage people from underrepresented groups and diverse backgrounds to apply. EOE/AA employer.
Guthrie Experience Fellowships
As part of A Guthrie Experience, a seven-week summer intensive, we are offering fellowship opportunities in production and design that seek to cultivate future leaders in theater through experiential learning and professional training.
Through our ongoing work with the Native community, we are offering fellowship opportunities to three emerging Native artists in the winter/spring of 2020. Working alongside Guthrie staff in directing, stage management and theater management — in preparation for our summer musical, Cabaret — fellows will be given space to hone their skills, build relationships and gain professional experience outside of a classroom environment.
A Guthrie Experience
Designed for M.F.A. actors and theatermakers, this seven-week summer intensive aims to inspire a culture of collaboration and artistic excellence among early career professionals. Curriculum includes workshops master teachers, professional mentorship, the opportunity to develop a new work, and exposure to the Twin Cities’ vibrant theater scene.
U of M / Guthrie Theater B.F.A. Actor Training Program
Established in 1999, this unique partnership between the Guthrie and the University of Minnesota pairs rigorous professional actor training with a holistic liberal arts education. Studying and rehearsing on both a Big Ten campus and in the Guthrie’s world-class facility, students benefit from exceptional academic preparation and world-class artistic experiences.
Actors and playwrights
Auditions for specific productions are held in Minneapolis and New York as needed. We encourage local actors to check MinnesotaPlaylist regularly for audition notices. General auditions are scheduled annually and usually in the spring. Auditions may also be held in other major cities such as Chicago, Los Angeles and Seattle.

We are committed to equity, diversity and inclusion in all areas of our work, including the casting of our plays. We seek to hire actors who reflect our world and strongly encourage people from underrepresented groups and diverse backgrounds to audition. EOE/AA employer.
Most casting for Guthrie productions is done locally, although some out-of-town actors are hired for almost every production. The majority of our out-of-town casting is arranged through McCorkle Casting, Ltd.
The Guthrie does not accept or review unsolicited scripts. Agents and theater professionals may submit new and previously produced scripts by invitation only.
