The Guthrie Actors Lab is a free, four-week intensive designed to support early to mid-career artists based in the Twin Cities. Each cohort engages in a rigorous exploration of the acting craft through workshops with expert theater practitioners in these key areas:
- Movement and physicality
- Voice and speech
- Heightened text
- Stage combat
- Character work
- Scene study — and more

Eligibility
Any artist based in the Twin Cities is welcome to apply for the Guthrie Actors Lab. Union and non-union actors are welcome.
The Guthrie is dedicated to building an equitable environment that is mixed across lines of difference and strongly encourages applications from Black artists, Indigenous artists, artists of color, women, transgender artists and nonbinary artists.
Program details
Guthrie Actors Lab will rigorously hone actors’ skills through active workshops in scene study, performing Shakespeare, voice and dialect work, on-camera technique and voiceovers, movement and stage combat, and auditioning for the stage.
Artists will be given multiple opportunities to polish auditions and showcase their work, guided by world-class teaching artists.
Location
Guthrie Actors Lab will take place in rehearsal rooms, classrooms and the Dowling Studio at the Guthrie Theater.
Key dates
The cohort for the 2026 Guthrie Actors Lab has been chosen and will be training at the Guthrie May 4–29, 2026. Applications for the 2027 Guthrie Actors Lab will open early next year.
