Here comes the fun
Guthrie summer camps and intensives offer kids and teens the opportunity to work alongside professional theater artists to develop their skills as creators and creative thinkers. These fun, impactful experiences inspire positive self-development and community leadership by connecting participants to the artistry and creative process of the Guthrie.
Designed for middle and high school students entering grades 6–12, all camps feature hands-on learning led by skilled teaching artists that focus on a wide range of theatermaking, both on and off the stage.

Scholarships
The Guthrie is committed to offering educational programming to all students and provides 100% and 50% scholarships for families with financial need. The scholarship application deadline for summer 2026 has passed.
Cancellation and refunds
Guthrie Education reserves the right to cancel a summer camp or intensive up to two weeks before the start date due to insufficient registration with full refunds (including the $25 deposit fee) and notification given.

Grades 6–8

Play wacky theater games, create jokes on the spot and make ’em laugh in this active, fast-paced introduction to improv. You’ll start with the foundations and build on ideas with your scene partners as you learn the power of theatrical teamwork. Embrace your strengths as the class clown or overcome stage fright in this supportive ensemble environment. At the end of camp, you’ll perform a fun comedy showcase for family and friends with characters and situations made up on the spot!

Grades 9–12

Develop your “Yes, and” skills through generative games to create characters, develop scenes and forge ensembles in this upper-level introduction to improv. You’ll start with the fundamentals and build generative skills in collaboration with your scene partners — going further together than you ever could alone. At the end of camp, you’ll perform a fun improv showcase for family and friends to show off your new skills!

As Maria says in The Sound of Music, the beginning is “a very good place to start.” In this entry-level camp, you’ll learn the fundamentals of musical theater: singing, acting and dancing. Through focused workshops, vocal training and physical exercises, you’ll gain (or improve) the tools needed to perform your best in musical theater. Tip: This camp will prepare you to excel in upcoming auditions or take part in our Broadway Bootcamp (July 13–24).

Don’t throw away your shot! Spend the week singing, performing and grooving to Lin-Manuel Miranda’s greatest musical hits, including Encanto, In the Heights and the worldwide musical theater sensation Hamilton. Find out how far you’ll go through individual coaching for singing and acting, plus collaborative group choreography. At the end of camp, you’ll rise up and live “el sueñito” as you share your talents with family and friends in the ultimate mixtape.

Ever wonder how performers throw a punch, parry a thrust or fall safely onstage? Train with certified fight instructors and become part of the action! You’ll learn movement techniques and safety practices to amplify your theatrical tool kit while practicing essential skills in a safe, supervised environment, just like professional actors. Tip: This camp is the perfect preparation for the fight work in our Shakespeare Intensive (July 13–24).

Are you eager to let out your inner clown and learn comedic gags like pratfalls or banana-peel slips? This camp is for you! Break down classic gags and discover how precision and timing get an audience laughing. Through laughter, games and improvisation, you'll learn the basics of clowning and physical comedy. Join your fellow actors (or general goofs) in becoming more generous, playful and genuine performers by tapping into the silly self at your core.

You’ve seen them onstage or online. You sing the songs constantly. Now, get ready to hone your musical theater skills while belting your favorite trending songs! You’ll build technique through contemporary text, song, choreography and acting workshops. At the end of camp, you’ll step into the spotlight and share your talents with family and friends in an end-of-week cabaret featuring hits from musicals that have gone viral like Six, The Outsiders, Wicked and Hadestown.

Huntrix, BTS and Seventeen stans rise up! Unleash your inner idol as you learn songs from KPop Demon Hunters and dance along to the chart-topping records of your favorite K-pop groups. You’ll work with professional musicians and choreographers to develop your performance skills. Spend the week in workshops singing, dancing and developing your individual persona before you take to the stage at the end of camp in a concert-style showcase for friends and family.

“Jump in the line” and get ready for some spooktacular fun while performing in Beetlejuice, the Broadway phenomenon inspired by the beloved Tim Burton movie. You’ll work with industry professionals to strengthen skills in singing, acting, dance and character development through master classes and rehearsals. The entire experience culminates in a frightfully hilarious showcase of scenes and songs from Beetlejuice for friends and family. (Just don’t say his name three times!)

Immerse yourself in Shakespeare’s famous comedy full of mistaken identities, comic fights and daring romance: Twelfth Night! This camp is perfect for those who are new to Shakespeare as well as those ready to “strut and fret their next hour upon the stage.” You’ll learn how to read, understand and perform heightened language, plus gain confidence in performing classical text. At the end of camp, you’ll participate in a Bard-inspired performance for friends and family.

Put on your headset and get ready to G-O in this hands-on camp for stage managers. Learn real-world tricks and techniques from working professionals in this immersive, two-week camp. Through practical workshops and rehearsal room experience, you’ll gain skills in interpersonal communication, collaboration, organization and document design, setting you up to manage any style of live performance.

Are you interested in a theater career behind the scenes? Get ready for a deep dive into the design and backstage techniques that bring theater magic to life onstage. Learn from the pros in the Guthrie’s in-house shops as you explore how to design, build and mount theatrical productions. You’ll develop your own stage designs and develop hands-on skills that you can use to enhance your school or community’s theater programs.

Attention fashionistas: Do you love building characters through hair styling, outfits and accessories? This hands-on camp is for you! Discover costuming techniques as you learn from the pros in the Guthrie’s in-house shops with a robust exploration of costumes, wigs, makeup and more. Then, tap into your creativity by creating character-specific designs and exploring how to make your visions reality.

Everyone knows that heroes and villains always get the best songs. Experience the action and excitement as you take on the most iconic characters in the Disney collection, from Ariel and Ursula to Moana and Maui. Gain an understanding of the fundamentals of musical theater by singing your favorite songs and building showstopping group numbers. At the end of camp, you’ll dazzle your friends and family with a good vs. evil showcase of legendary Disney hits!

Ready to level up your acting skills? This intensive camp will prime you for any upcoming auditions through in-depth concentration on your craft and training with industry professionals. Challenge yourself with a rigorous week of scene study, physical training and one-on-one vocal coaching. As a bonus, you’ll gain real-world experience in a mock audition with the Guthrie’s Artistic Team.

Was it Professor Plum in the library with a candlestick … or with a rubber duck? You decide! Get ready to create some mysterious mayhem using the colorful characters from the iconic board game, cult movie and hilarious stage play Clue. Build your clowning and character acting skills and devise original scenes full of wacky twists and turns in the billiards room ... or the conservatory? At the end of camp, you’ll perform scenes for friends and family while unveiling your new comedic mystery in the style of Clue.
