An unforgettable night
Thank you to everyone who joined us on Friday, June 26 for the second annual Fanfare for the Guthrie — a joyful evening recognizing costume designer Paul Tazewell along with Twin Cities arts leaders Martha Goldberg Aronson, Luella Goldberg, Marilyn Carlson Nelson and Wendy Nelson for their extraordinary impact.
Together, we marked 20 years in our home on the riverfront, illuminated the future of the Guthrie and surpassed our $1.5 million goal — funding the artistic legacy of the theater. We’re beyond grateful for your support.
Save the date for next year's Fanfare on Saturday, June 12!

The history behind the name
When the original Guthrie Theater opened on Vineland Place in 1963, musicians played a fanfare on herald trumpets before each showtime. Today, we play a recording of that signature fanfare to announce when a performance is about to begin. This musical tradition is echoed in our annual gala name, which celebrates the Guthrie’s legacy and the excitement of live theater.
