EDUCATION PROGRAMS

For youth

Theater is a space where kids and teens can embrace play, flex their creative muscles, express themselves and dream big. The Guthrie strives to create a brave space that centers diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility while empowering youth to build self-confidence and meaningful relationships with their peers. Guthrie Actors Lab_Combat

For professional actors

Actors based in the Twin Cities who wish to hone their artistic practice are invited to apply for Guthrie Actors Lab — a free, four-week intensive training program held at the Guthrie each spring. A cohort of 12 selected actors will explore topics such as scene study, Shakespeare and stage combat, all guided by locally renowned teaching artists and the Guthrie Artistic Team.

The application period for 2026 is currently closed but will reopen in early 2027.

For the community

The Guthrie was founded by, for and with the people of Minnesota, so engaging with our local community is a critical part of our education programming. Through a variety of free events, we seek to bring the community and the Guthrie together to explore and celebrate the themes on our stages. We offer a rotating slate of free programs for adults, including play reading clubs inspired by our shows, post-play discussions after select performances, How’d They Do That? Workshops that take you behind the scenes and more.

Bring the Guthrie into your classroom

Theater in Focus is a free resource for educators that pairs a high-quality, filmed Guthrie production with a robust curriculum that may be adapted for high school, college and university students. Enrich your study of Hamlet and Henry V with activities designed to be used with the film or the text.
