Donor spotlight: Karen Bachman
Few people embody the spirit of the Guthrie quite like Karen Bachman. A devoted supporter for nearly 60 years, Karen is a longtime subscriber, annual fund donor, lifetime director, member of the Guthrie Heritage Society and steering committee member of the Illuminate Campaign. She currently serves on the Guthrie’s board of directors, helping to guide the theater’s future while honoring its legacy. As we enter the season of giving, we asked Karen to reflect on her enduring connection to the Guthrie and why she believes in supporting the theater for generations to come.
Why is the Guthrie special to you?
The Guthrie has given me so many hours of entertaining and thought-provoking theater. I am very grateful for that. I am also proud of the Guthrie’s leadership in cementing our community’s reputation as a cultural destination. And I think it’s great that the new building was a catalyst in creating a thriving new neighborhood.
How many years have you attended? Who do you typically attend with and why?
I’ve been attending for nearly 60 years. I’ve had season tickets going back to the 1970s. Now I have three subscriptions for Opening Night so I can invite old friends and introduce new friends to the Guthrie.
What inspires you to support the Guthrie annually and through the Guthrie Heritage Society?
I view my annual gift as a thank you for everything the Guthrie gives to me personally and for all it does to make our community better. My legacy intention is motivated by wanting the theater to thrive for the next 60 years. Estate gifts are a key way to ensure that.
