Henry IV
by WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE
directed by JOSEPH HAJ
Part of a three-part theatrical event
Heavy is the head that wears the crown. So the history goes in Shakespeare’s three dramas encompassing the life and times of key players in the tumultuous English monarchy from 1398 to 1420: Richard II, Henry IV and Henry V. Known as the Henriad or History Cycle, this dramatic feat marks a return to a historic moment for the Guthrie, as it was performed in rotating repertory on our stage more than 30 years ago. Performed by a single company of 25 actors, this three-play event will immerse audiences in Shakespeare’s examination of power, those who seek it and those who are destroyed by the power they crave.
