Book Signing With Daniel Pollack-Pelzner:
Author of Lin-Manuel Miranda: The Education of an Artist
Saturday, January 31, 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Dowling Studio
As Somewhere illuminates the Guthrie stage this winter, our musical theater theme plays on with a special event featuring Daniel Pollack-Pelzner, author of the acclaimed biography Lin-Manuel Miranda: The Education of an Artist. Enjoy a captivating exploration of Miranda’s artistic journey, including how the creator of the hit Broadway musicals Hamilton and In the Heights found his unique voice and helped to redefine American musical theater. To help tell Miranda’s story, students from the University of Minnesota will perform hits from his songbook paired with excerpts from the biography. Daniel will conclude the event with a book signing, so be sure to grab a copy at the Guthrie Store.
This event is presented by the Guthrie Theater in partnership with the University of Minnesota’s Department of Theatre Arts & Dance. NOTE: Lin-Manuel Miranda will not be at this event.
Tickets are free and open to all ages, but registration is required.
Play Club: Shakespeare Adaptations
Tuesdays, February 3–24, 1:30–2:30 p.m.
Level Five
From Ovid to Boccaccio to Holinshed’s Chronicles, Shakespeare loved borrowing a good story — so it is fitting that many of his plays have been adapted into new forms throughout the centuries. In this four-week play club, you’ll read scripts from four Bard-inspired adaptations and engage in lively group discussions led by a member of the Guthrie’s Artistic Team. You may attend all four weeks or drop in for individual weeks based on your interests.
Each play club session is free, but registration is required for each individual session.
Schedule and featured plays:
- February 3: Fat Ham by James Ijames (2021)
- February 10: Desdemona: A Play About a Handkerchief by Paula Vogel (1993)
- February 17: Une Tempête (A Tempest) by Aimé Césaire (1969)
- February 24: Equivocation by Bill Cain (2009)
Scripts are available for purchase in the Guthrie Store or at guthriestore.com.
